Well, after one false start, I was able to obtain a copy of this, the fifth full length record from a band that I cannot believe hasn't become popular in the US. As another reviewer has stated, this album is full of energy, from the first three opening tracks all the way to the end. Even the slower tracks are deep and just plain cool. I've been listening to BBS since their first album came out the brilliant "Out Loud". While I liked both "Umbra" and "Photon", I wasn't nearly as floored with either of them. Then, last years' "Full of elevating Pleasures" came out and I was hooked right from the sample previews at bbs-net.com . Then about three months ago, I saw an update to the site and "ON" was on the way... By FAR their most consistant and exiting album since "Out Loud".Let's start shall we? Kick it out: The song starts out with two strong guitar chords, a bit of disjointed drumming, trademark BBS lyrics and then just builds into a straight up rock and roll from the next galaxy tune.9 Doors Empire: My wife says she'd love this song if it was nothing but a loop of the deep bass line over and over. And what do you know, they do it, and add to it. BBS has this way of constructing songs gradually and then just kind of twisting them up a little bit with a quirk or two. Masterful stuff.Girl: click click click click go the drumsticks of "unofficial BBS member" Naoki Hirai and BANG we're into another rock anthem. I'll be perfectly honest here, Nakano and Kawashima are BBS, but without Hirai, who has been with them on every album, there would BE no BBS sound. His drumming is as distinctive as Phil Collins, Mel Gaynor (Simple Minds), or Terry Bozio. The guy is a freaking GENIUS of percussion. He doesn't do anything tremendously special in this song, I just needed to say that somewhere.id: Like any good Anime film, every Boom Boom Album contains one or two spots where you just go... "What the... ?" Now, that's not to say it isn't cool, it's just... weird. id is 1 minute and 30 seconds of weird.Play: Like all the good songs on "Full of.." Play is anthemic without being pretentious. And you can really hear the distinctiveness of Hirai's drumming style on this song. The secret? Why hit the crash cymbal once when hitting it ten times will do just as well? She's So high: A choural song and a slow one, but an excellent transition. A chance to catch your breath before the second half of the album kicks off with....... Pill: Every time I listen to this song I ask myself... "Why are these guys NOT POPULAR IN THE US???" Pill is every bit as good as your average American Indie pop rock song... matter of fact, it's a heck of a lot better than most of the junk that I hear on so called "alternative" stations today... maybe that's the problem.Generator: An intrumental (mostly) driven by a really cool bass synth line. On this song, BBS shows that they can be just as creative without words as they can WITH words.Beat It: No, not a remake of the song by he whom I shall not name but yest another pulsing driving song driven by an awesome bass heavy riff and choir like chorus.Porcupine: Well look, every BBS album has at least one song on it that ... well, I really don't much care for this interlude, but I've come to expect it, and knowing it's coming actually makes it a bit better. It's a quiet sort of studio trick filled song that provides a moment of quiet before the closing numbers. The intermission before the encore if you will.Nothing: It's something allright. Another fast paced strong song that has me wondering WHEN Sony will unleash these guys on an unsuspecting American populace. Look, take your angst ridden emo kid bands and just ... remove all the fake drama... add in some musicians who can actually produce listenable music and you can still have a powerful, emotional song. You just won't slit your wrists to it.Loaded: A strong finish. The boys really pull out all the delay / chorus / stretching quiet followed by burst of sound tricks on this one. It's clearly a "last song on the disc" type song and provides a wonderful closure to an incredible album.Folks, that's about all I can think of to say... this is a great album, somewhere between rock / electronica / with a dash of gospel and jazz.Turn it ON!
